Ƶ has earned recognition as one of the nation’s best higher education institutions in multiple categories on the annual U.S. News & World Report 2024 Best Colleges rankings, the publication announced today.
Among Midwest schools, Kettering earned two top-10 rankings on the prestigious list. It was No. 6 among Most Innovative Schools – Regional Universities Midwest and No. 9 among Regional Universities Midwest.
Nationally, Kettering earned top spots in several categories, including:
- Best Undergraduate Engineering – Non-Doctorate No. 14
- Co-ops/Internships: No. 18
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our faculty, our students, our alumni and the Kettering community as a whole,” said Dr. Robert K. McMahan, Ƶ President. “Coming on the heels of our historic Boldly Forward Capital Campaign, the opening of the Learning Commons and the addition of several forward-thinking leaders, this national recognition goes to show Kettering is building on the excellence we’ve established over a century. These are exciting times at Ƶ; we are proud of our heritage and legacy, and are excited about our future.”
Last year, Kettering also placed among the nation’s top colleges and universities in multiple categories.
It’s no surprise Kettering earned its top marks for innovation. Evidence of such innovation taking place at Kettering can be found all over campus.
The University recently introduced five interdisciplinary focuses in academics —advanced mobility, new energy vehicles, intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence and sustainability—that can be paired with engineering, computer science and management disciplines to “re-shape the institution to better meet the needs that we know industry of the future is going to require,” according to Provost Dr. James Zhang.
On the research front, the National Science Foundation has awarded three faculty members with grants this year alone, among more than $2 million in research grants Kettering has earned this year.
The Learning Commons, meanwhile, stole the national spotlight at the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) 2022 Annual Conference in Long Beach, California, in July. The Learning Commons served as a case study for the evolution of campus spaces such as libraries and common areas into collaboration hubs and idea incubators.
