Electrical Engineering

As you earn your electrical or computer engineering degree, you’ll gain real-world, on-the-job experience you can add to your resume by alternating classroom work with hands-on experiences in the field. You’ll work with one of our 420 Kettering employer partners, including Tesla, General Motors and Microsoft.
On-campus student groups

At Kettering, electrical engineering majors and computer engineering majors alike belong to student chapters of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Electrical and Computer Engineering honor society, Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN), as well as our student electric go-kart group, EV-Kartz, and others.
Leading labs
From your first week on campus, you’ll test and grow your skills in our cutting-edge labs that focus on mobility, power electronics and haptics. As an electrical engineering major, you’ll study and work with circuits, electronics and electrical machines. As a computer engineering major, you’ll have labs that focus on digital systems, microcomputers and computer networks.

At Kettering, our High Voltage Lab provides space for students and faculty to conduct research in dielectric materials in different physical states.
Advanced Machines & Power Electronics Design Laboratory
At Kettering, our Advanced Power Electronics Laboratory (AMPED) focuses on the development and testing of electrical machines and power-electronic circuit system prototypes.

Among your scholarship and grant options, students studying within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering may be eligible to receive the Patricia and Armen Oumedian Engineering Scholarship, sponsored by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation.
To be eligible for this $1,000 award, you must meet certain criteria: you must be a full-time student at Kettering or transferring here from Grand Rapids Community College; reside in West Michigan or work for a West Michigan ĂŰĚŇĘÓƵ co-op employer; demonstrate financial need; and hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
